Persuasion Speech 4/4/16 Sonia Marreiros General Goal: To persuade. Specific Goal: At the end of my speech, I want the audience who want to get a pet now or in the future to adopt instead of buy from a store or a mill. Proposition Statement: Euthanization and over impregnated dogs can be lowered if people are more informed about pet stores and mills, and adopt making room for more animals to go through the rescue and shelters. Introduction (Attention Step) Attention Getter: Whenever I look into my dog’s eyes, I could never believe that she was once in an awful situation then brought to an animal rescue shelter, but she was. She was physically abused, starved, and never went outside until brought to the rescue. What needs to be done, and what the benefits are of doing so. Establish Credibility: I currently have a dog, 2 guinea pigs, and 8 birds that we have adopted. I also volunteer for Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society whenever I can. Preview Statement: I am going to address what the problem with mills are, and the reasons why one should consider adopting a pet instead of buying one from a pet store or a mill. Body I: Introduce the problem/issue (Need Step) A: Pet mills put money and profit, before the health of the animals they are breeding. Animals from these mills are usually living in disgusting conditions, and not getting the medical care that they need (Sheeter, n.d.). Because of this, the animals can get very prone to sickness, and have behavioural problems. They are left in small crates, squished together, have terrible diets, and dirty water (Sheeter, n.d.). A lot of dogs have been neglected or abused and have had little attention, interaction with humans or other animals, or obedience trainings. Divorce has become very popular in the United States. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, on average 50% of marriages result in a failed marriage. This percentage has been at it’s all time high. Not many couples have sustained a successful marriage in present days. Divorces have been around for a long time, and unfortunately kids have always been affected the most according to their age. As a result of divorce, there are many children that have to go through this situation at a very young age. Children of ages three to six have a difficult time understanding why their parents are splitting up. They are still at a young age where they do not accept the fact that their parents are no longer going to be together. Kids have the hardest time when the parents did not argue in front of them because the divorce comes out of the blue. Children like to fantasize that their parents will reunite to help cope with the pain. As a consequence of this, the relationship between the child and parent is affected by not having the same mutual bond they used to have. This can change the dependency of the relationship even if the child does not remember the divorce itself. MANAGING THE RFP PROCESS BEST PRACTICES FOR WRITING PROPOSALS Congratulations! The RFP seems like a perfect fit. Your company has decided to submit a proposal and you’re the project lead. Whether you’re managing the process in-house or working with a team of professionals like The Writers for Hire, here are some tips to help you maneuver the process successfully. FIRST, DO YOUR HOME WORK Read the RFP from top to bottom, end to end. It may be a chore to plough through what seems to be mind-numbing boiler plate but every word is important. CHOOSE YOUR TOOLS You will need to choose a document system and agree ahead of time on the procedures for edits and comments within the draft document. Word and Google Docs work well for documenting group collaboration. Google Docs’ color-coded highlighting, for example, is a good way to indicate whether text is draft copy, reviewed/edited, final, or still needs information/clarification/editing. You might also want to consider using a project management program or RFP software to help keep track of deadlines, rules, forms, and updates. There are many to choose from, depending on your specific needs for managing feedback from multiple reviewers and balancing several time-sensitive moving parts.
